Volunteers are invaluable to Apostleship of the Sea. Without them we simply could not sustain our vital work with seafarers.
Apostleship of the Sea offers a wide range of volunteer work. Below are just some of the areas where we need volunteers:
![]() |
Parish contacts: As a minimum we ask parish contacts to distribute 5 copies of “Alongside” our supporters magazine in their parish and help once a year with Sea Sunday our annual appeal. If parish contacts want to do more they can help to fundraise, organise events, have a display of AoS materials in their parish and much more.
Ship visiting: Volunteer ship visitors go onboard vessels to visit seafarers, approaching them as friends, listening to their concerns and where possible offering practical help, for example providing news from seafarers’ home countries, local information and arranging for mass or liturgy onboard.
Driving: Volunteer drivers take seafarers from their ships to seafarers’ centres, the local shops and, on some occasions, a local church or hospital. |

Help in Seafarers’ Centres: Seafarer centres rely on volunteers to keep them running. Volunteers help by making teas and coffees, selling phone cards, befriending seafarers and being there to support seafarers when necessary.
Fundraising: Volunteers help us by holding fundraising events in their local community for example by holding quiz nights, coffee mornings or taking part in sponsored walks/runs for example.
Office volunteers: At Head Office we sometimes need help with administrative duties such as database entry, opening and filling envelopes and general administration duties. |
If you are interested in volunteering for us please do not hesitate to give us a call at the national office or contact us.
