Knit a Woolly Hat

Volunteers have been knitting hats for Apostleship of the Sea since the 1920's.

Woolly hats and balaclavas provide seafarers arriving in the UK, often ill-prepared for our weather, with a simple way to keep themselves warm during the many months they are at sea.

By downloading a pattern and knitting a woolly hat, you are helping the work of Apostleship of the Sea  and directly benefiting the seafarer at the same time.

Help seafarers by knitting. We need balaclavas, gloves and hats in any colours.

Patterns Submitted by You - Our Valued Knitters

We ask you not to send your hats to the National Office due to limitations in space. Instead they should be posted or delivered to your local chaplain who will be able to distribute them directly to seafarers. Please contact the chaplain and they will let you know where they would like you to post them. - Find your nearest chaplain here.

Also, if you have a pattern you would like us to feature here, please get in touch using the details on our contact page - no copyrighted materials please.

Newsflash!

We would like to say thank you to Seafarers UK for granting us a sum of £25000 towards our chaplains work with seafarers, providing a proactive ship-visiting service to merchant ships visiting Great Britain.
